Solomon Islands

In 2016, twenty youths from Vanuatu, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Bougainville and PNG gathered in Buala on Ysabel Island, Solomon Islands for a MILDA youth workshop. Hosted by the Anglican Diocese of Ysabel. The theme of the workshop was “My Land, My Future.”

The workshop was designed to educate youth about the impact of extractive industries, such as logging, mining of mineral resources and prospecting seabed mining. They also discussed other important issues, such as the self-determination for West Papua, Kanaky and Bougainville.

Alternatives to extractive industries, such as kastom economies was also discussed. The youth contributed to the Buala Declaration of 2016.
